Spicy top fermented single-bock, made according to the world-famous purity law for German beer of 1516, which stated that the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be barley, hops and water. Weihenstephan Monastery Brewery, in Freising, close to Munich, is the oldest brewery in the world. Weihenstephan beer was born in 1040, when Arnold abbot succeeded in obtaining the license to brew and sell beer.

 

 

 

How it is made

 
Weihenstephan Vitus is brewed according to traditional methods. First of all the beer mash is made from barley, wheat malt and water. Then hops are added at boiling temperature and the result is left to ferment for a week. The maturing process takes place in the storage cellars, 15 meters beneath the monastery gardens for about thirty days.

 

 

 

Tasting notes

 
Pale golden colour with greenish hues, and a persistent head of foam. On the nose it is very intense, with fruity smells of dried apricots, aromas of citrus, cloves and hints of banana. Full-bodied and sparkling with an effervescent mouthfeel and a bitter finish. Perfect with red meat and strong cheese. Best served at a temperature of 8º C to 10 º C. 7,7% ABV.
