Protos Reserva is a delicious and silky red wine, with Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero, made from 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in 60 year-old vines, and aged for 18 months in French and American oak casks. Bodegas Protos was founded in 1927 by a group of local vine growers. It is Ribera del Duero’s oldest winery (“protos” is the Greek word for “first”).
How it is made
The grapes are handpicked and selected at the sorting table. Fermentation takes place for 24 days at a controlled temperature of 28º C. It is left to age for 18 months in French (66%) and American (33%) oak casks. Finally, it is matured in the bottled for at least 24 months.
Dark cherry red colour with ruby highlights. Complex aromas of black fruits with toasty notes and hints of spices and cream. Intense flavours of fruits and spices with round tannins and a good acidity. Long and persistent finish. Best served at a temperature of 16º- 18º C. Perfect with meat, game, cold meat, beans, anchovies and cured cheese.
